1.What is the mission of your club? What sort of impact do you want to make on the Shasta community? We strive to destigmatize the issue of youth houselessness, not only in our local communities, but also through education and advocacy, etc. By taking the initiative to involve ourselves and the larger Shasta community in volunteering opportunities and advocacy work, we can start to put this goal into action. We hope to create new perspectives on this issue, free from judgment and stereotypes where any and all situations are valid.
2.What will group members learn and do as part of your club? Our club members will learn about topics related to the issue, such as the housing crisis, stigma and stereotypes surrounding the unhoused, and ways to help alleviate this issue. Once we finish educating our members, they will get the opportunity to volunteer at youth shelters, help run donation drives, and tutor youth facing adversity. Overall, they would advocate and educate people about unhoused youth, bringing more awareness to this issue.
3.What special projects/fundraisers does your club hope to plan this year? A couple special projects that we have in mind are donation drives and tutoring initiatives. For donation drives, we would find specific youth shelters to donate to by raising money, resources, etc in service. For tutoring initiatives, we would work with certain organizations to tutor youth facing adversity in the educational field. Some smaller projects we aim to take on are setting up educational bulletins around school and creating slideshows to present during mentor time classes on issues surrounding the topic of unhoused youth.
